The Vagus Nerve phenomenon is all over the internet for good reason! This incredible piece of our anatomy carries messages between the brain, heart, gut and lungs.


Sarah Otto, the mastermind behind The Gut Solution, explores the connection made by the Vagus Nerve between the gut and brain in greater detail: โ€œThe gut and the mind are connected by the Vagus nerve (which transmits more signals from the gut to the brain than vice versa!) and our microbiome, which [...] produces significant amounts of neurotransmitters that regulate our mood, focus and sense of wellbeing, like serotonin and dopamine.โ€


Stimulating the Vagus Nerve holds numerous healing benefits:

Reducing inflammation, regulating emotions, helping with depression, lowering blood pressure and heart rate, and stabilising some respiratory problems.


In The Inflammation Solution by Sarah Otto, the proper functioning of the Vagus nerve, known as good vagal tone, is the state of a balanced parasympathetic/sympathetic response.


Sympathetic response - Fight/flight/freeze

Parasympathetic - where healing happens

How do you stimulate the Vagus Nerve for healing?
